The Finnish Summer Escape
Helsinki arrival, drive north through the countryside, 9 nights in a private lakeside cottage with sauna. Canoe, mountain bike, forest walks and long evenings by the water.
Finland · Jyväskylä Region
Experience the world's happiest country
We design small-group travel in the Finnish Lakeland — sauna, open water, forest and long summer evenings. Real Finland, far from the crowds.
Summer · May–August
The light barely fades. The lakes warm up, the forests open and life moves outdoors.
Winter · December–March
The lakes freeze, the forests fill with snow and the sauna becomes the centre of life.

Package detail · Summer
Fly in from Amsterdam, Brussels, Frankfurt or London. Check in to your hotel in the city centre. Walk the waterfront, visit the market square, have a proper Finnish dinner. Early night — tomorrow is a driving day.
Pick up your rental car and drive north through the Finnish countryside — roughly 3 hours, mostly forest and small towns. Arrive at your lakeside cottage in the afternoon. First swim from the dock. First sauna in the evening. The temperature difference between the 80-degree sauna and the cool lake will make you feel more alive than anything has in months.
No schedule. Wake up when you want. Swim before coffee, or after. Kayak along the shore. Explore the surroundings on foot. In the evening, light the sauna again and eat outside on the terrace. This is what the trip is actually for.
The Jyväskylä region has excellent mountain biking trails through forests and along lake shores. Bikes can be rented and a guide is available. The trails range from easy forest paths to more technical routes. Back to the cottage in the evening, tired in the good way.
A guided walk through the forests around the cottage — or trails in a nearby nature reserve. A local guide can help you read the landscape: different trees, how to find berries, how the land has been used. In summer the forest is dense, green and full of life. There are moments of real silence out there.
One of the best ways to experience the Finnish landscape at the right pace. You move slowly enough to notice things: the reflection of the forest in the water, the silence between paddle strokes, the occasional heron. Half-day or full day depending on your energy.
A day in Jyväskylä itself — Finland's most Aalto-rich city, a university town with good coffee, local restaurants and a relaxed atmosphere. Visit the Alvar Aalto Museum, walk along the harbour, explore the market. Back to the cottage for a last sauna evening.
Three days with no fixed plan. Read, swim, paddle, sleep in. Maybe a half-day fishing trip. Maybe a visit to a local farm shop. The evenings are long enough that you never feel like you've run out of time. This is the part of the trip most people say they needed most.
Check out in the morning. Drive back south through the same landscape — which looks slightly different now that you know what it contains. One last dinner in the city.
Return the car and fly home. The flight takes a few hours. Finland takes a bit longer to leave.
This is an example outline — every day can be adjusted to your pace, group size and interests.

Direct water access, a wood-fired sauna overlooking the lake and enough space to breathe.
Private dock, rowing boat included. The water is 5 metres from the terrace.
Wood-fired, with a large window overlooking the water. The real thing.
Pine forest on three sides. Quiet enough to hear the water at night.
Close enough to reach the city in under 30 minutes. Far enough to feel remote.
Where exactly
The Jyväskylä region sits at the heart of the Finnish Lakeland — thousands of lakes, dense forests and small towns with real character. Not on most travel itineraries, which is precisely what makes it worth visiting.
